DONATIONS WE
DO NOT ACCEPT
Appliances in non-working and/or unsaleable condition: |
| |
These include all built-in appliances. We cannot afford to repair appliances, and the cost of disposing them is prohibitive. As an alternative, Marborg Industries will recycle most appliances at no charge if brought to their facility; their phone number is 805-963-1852. |
|
Curtain/drapery rods: |
| |
These are slow movers. They are difficult to display and often create foot hazards around the store. |
|
Desks (metal): |
| |
These are slow movers and are expensive to handle. |
|
Mattresses: |
| |
We used to sell mattresses but the law now requires that they be sterilized and the costs have become prohibitive. We do accept futons. |
|
Bed frames and headboards: |
| |
These are slow movers that are difficult to display and are foot hazards around the store. |
|
Furniture in need of repair or cleaning: |
| |
The cost of labor prohibits furniture repair and cleaning, and the necessity of using available floor space for items that sell prohibits the "storage" of slow-moving broken or soiled furniture. Even a nice couch that just needs a good cleaning is hard to find a home for. |
|
Large outdoor toys: |
| |
Includes swing sets, slides, pools, sand boxes. These tend to be slow movers that occupy a lot of space, Marborg Industries will accept metal toys, but not plastic. |
|
Ping-pong and pool tables: |
| |
These are too large for the store and too heavy for our staff to handle. As an alternative, schools and youth groups might be interested in these items. |
|
Television and stereo consoles: |
| |
These large items are slow movers and their weight makes disposal expensive. |
|
Building materials: |
| |
We are not able to safely transport or display these large, slow-moving items. |
|
Built-ins: |
| |
These includes doors, windows, counters, cabinets, sinks, tubs, toilets, medicine cabinets, carpeting, solar and water heaters, water softeners. We do not have the space to safely store these large, slow-moving items. |
|
Car batteries: |
| |
These contain hazardous chemicals; we cannot expose our staff or the public to them. As an alternative, call UCSB's Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center at 805-963-0583, x105 (weekdays), 805-893-7250 (weekends). |
