DONATING TO ALPHA THRIFT
Alpha Resource Center owns and operates two thrift stores, from which 100% of the net proceeds go directly to our community services.
Our thrift stores provide Alpha with 58% of the total annual operating budget!
If you have items that are in good saleable condition but you no longer have use for them, please consider donating them to us for sale in one of our two thrift stores.
Thank you for considering Alpha Thrift Store for your donation!
Your generosity makes a difference in our community. By donating to Alpha Thrift Store, you help support programs for people with developmental disabilities, contribute to a major community recycling effort and strengthen the local economy. Without you, our work would not be possible.
What We Look for in Donations
Our profits are realized by selling items that are in demand, in resalable condition and in working order. The greatest demand is for clothing, bric-a-brac, household items, furniture and jewelry; automobiles, trailers, campers and boats are also gratefully accepted. Vehicles can be used directly by Alpha Center for providing transportation in its programs.
Donations We Do Not Accept
We are genuinely grateful for every donation that people offer. But sound business practices and safety considerations make it necessary for us to refuse some donations. Items that have to be disposed of rather than sold create expenses that our business cannot support. And the health and well-being of both customers and employees require that we refuse donations that are safety risks. When preparing a donation for Alpha Thrift Store, please see our
list of items we do not accept
, which explains in more detail why we must gratefully refuse some donations.
Donations can be brought to the Alpha Thrift Stores at 5624 or 5949 Hollister Ave during business hours. We are happy to assist you in unloading your vehicle.
Donations can also be brought to Alpha Resource Center at 4501 Cathedral Oaks Road in Santa Barbara during business hours. (Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) A map is located at the entrance gate to help you find the donation area and where to ask for help or a tax receipt.
Scheduling a Donation Pick-up
Alpha Thrift Store can pick up donations from homes and businesses. We have regularly scheduled routes which pass through most neighborhoods about once every five weeks. To schedule a pickup, call our coordinating office at 805-964-1123. We will call to remind you about the pickup on the day before. We welcome your specific instructions about the donation pickup and will forward your instructions to our drivers.
Before the Truck Arrives
To prepare for a pickup when you are not going to be home, mark the donation clearly with a sign that says "Alpha". The donation should be kept away from items that are not intended for pickup. Please make sure that dogs are confined or restrained.
When the Truck Arrives
Our drivers are not allowed to enter your home, but can enter your garage or carport if you are present. They can, at their discretion, refuse to pick up a donation that is hazardous, or not in working order or resalable condition, and they are required to refuse to complete a pickup if their health or wellbeing is at risk, for example when an item is too heavy or a dog is unconfined. If they cannot successfully pick up your donation, our drivers will communicate the reason to you and to our office.
Your donations to Alpha Thrift Store are tax-deductible:
Alpha Resource Center is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Corporation

Our federal identification number is 95-1966996.
